House Orsmond

Situated in the only street in Pretoria with white Jacaranda trees, Herbert Baker Street. The brief from the client was to alter the original house in order to make it relevant to family living today. 

The original seventies family home with it’s linear plan lent itself to expansion in the width. By increasing the depth of the building we had to carefully consider innovative ways to allow light and ventilation to still take place passively. Although the addition was primarily focused around expanding the useable area of the residence our vision was to introduce a new skin to the existing architecture. Our approach was to work in harmony with the original aesthetic but simultaneously introducing a contemporary experience. The new areas were attached to either side of the existing house which we intern connected cleverly within the interior spaces.
