Situated in the heart of prestigious Waterkloof this family home was designed in a contemporary-farm style. The clients brief was to create something that belongs to the 21 century but at the same time has traditional roots.
The traditional farm plan organizes the house into serve and serviced space. This organization allows the threshold between private and semi-private spaces to be more definite. Thick bagged-plaster walls were used as a traditional finish with face brick detailing contrasting as a contemporary material. The interior spaces are designed in the same spirit, this is evident in the farm style kitchen which becomes the heart of the building. The oversized chimneys are utilized as skylights allowing light into deep spaces. The building surrounds a small courtyard with a private garden in the middle of the property.
