Broadwalk Manor

Category: Residential Addition

Client: Private

Location: Pretoria

The project comprises of two new rooms to the back of the existing house and a covered patio. The building is located in an estate which was designed in a Tuscan architecture style. The challenge was to add something new to the existing style which would not compete or compromise the current style but will still be contemporary. The two new rooms were dealt with in the original style of the house in order to blur the line between the old and the new. The covered patio allowed for a different approach although the main objective was still to be in harmony with the existing. The patio roof followed the lines of the existing arches but built in a new material. The barrel vaulted steel roof is suspended by slender timber columns which gives the roof a floating quality. The new patio utilizes a beautiful view of a water stream surrounded by a forest of tall dense trees. The patio space extends into an outside cooking area with a built in braai and a boma which allows for the perfect exterior entertainment area.
