The iamafrikan initiative was founded by the Werkhof team in 2010 to challenge the general public in terms of their nationality. The brand was a reaction to the subconscious mindset of South Africans who don’t always acknowledge South Africa as part of Africa.
We as a studio wanted to challenge this notion with the iamafrikan brand. The awareness was established by selling African brooches to the general public. The brooches then served to remind us that we are African and that this should be celebrated.
